Guwahati, Oct 22 (NationPress) In a series of well-coordinated counter-insurgency operations throughout the Northeast, the Assam Rifles have effectively thwarted numerous attempts by insurgent factions to target security forces in recent weeks, according to sources on Wednesday.

Sources indicate that the banned United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I) and National Socialist Council of Nagalim K (YA) are primarily responsible for these assaults on security personnel in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

“Through meticulous planning, proactive deployment grids, and the integration of effective intelligence, the security forces have exhibited outstanding operational readiness and determination,” stated the sources.

On October 16, militants from the NSCN-K (YA) faction executed a standoff attack on the Hedman Camp in the Changlang District of South Arunachal Pradesh, which was successfully countered by a swift response.

The following day (October 17), ULFA (I) insurgents attempted a similar assault on the Kakopathar Camp in Tinsukia district of eastern Assam.

Vigilant troops retaliated decisively, inflicting casualties on the insurgent groups and apprehending an Over Ground Worker (OGW) involved in the conspiracy.

In reaction, the Assam Rifles have intensified operations, establishing an extensive counter-insurgency network backed by modern surveillance technologies, drones, and intelligence-driven high-tech teams.

This enhanced grid led to a successful ambush on Tuesday (October 21) in the 6 Mile Lekang Khampti area of Namsai district in South Arunachal Pradesh, resulting in the neutralization of one ULFA (I) cadre and the recovery of military-grade supplies.

A search of the area uncovered the body of a militant, identified as Iwon Axom, a self-proclaimed Sergeant Major of ULFA-I. Recovered items included one rifle, one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) round, and three rucksacks found alongside the militant’s body.

Sources assert that these rapid and precise actions have not only disrupted the insurgents' malicious plans but also reinstated the morale superiority of security forces in the region.

Reports indicate that insurgent groups are now retreating, their networks dismantled and leadership under duress.
