Aizawl, Aug 14 (NationPress) In distinct operations, Assam Rifles successfully seized ₹60 lakh in unaccounted Indian currency and heroin valued at around ₹78 lakh in Mizoram's Champhai district, notorious for drug trafficking and other illegal activities, officials reported on Thursday.
A man and a woman were taken into custody in relation to the confiscated Indian currency.
A spokesperson for the Defence stated that based on precise intelligence regarding narcotics trafficking, Assam Rifles initiated a search operation in the Zote area of eastern Mizoram's Champhai district.
During this operation, the troops conducted an extensive search, uncovering 94.6 grams of heroin estimated at nearly ₹78 lakh.
The seized items have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigation and appropriate legal measures.
In another operation, the paramilitary force retrieved ₹60 lakh in unaccounted Indian currency from a vehicle also located in the Zote area of Champhai district.
Two individuals in the vehicle, identified as Joseph Lalthansanga and Vanlalruati, were arrested.
The currencies, vehicle, and individuals have been transferred to Champhai Police for further inquiry and legal action.

Launching the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drugs Free India Campaign) in Aizawl, the Chief Minister noted that this geographical location has resulted in a constant influx of drugs into the state.
Stressing that drugs bring no societal benefits and must be completely eliminated, Lalduhoma, a former IPS officer, encouraged communities to remain vigilant and united against drug abuse, ensuring that Mizo society stays safe from these detrimental influences.
The Chief Minister urged the youth to completely avoid drugs, warning that even occasional use can lead to addiction. He also called on those already affected by addiction to bravely seek help and restart their lives.
