A Defence spokesperson indicated that acting on precise intelligence, the Assam Rifles initiated an operation on Tuesday night in the Zokhawthar region of eastern Mizoram’s Champhai district, known for being a hub of drug smuggling from neighboring Myanmar.
During this operation, the para-military forces attempted to detain a suspect who managed to escape, leaving behind a Chinese Kenbo bike and a mobile device.
Upon inspecting the motorcycle, the team uncovered 3.33 kg (30,300 tablets) of illicit methamphetamine and 190.90 grams of heroin, totaling a value of around Rs 10.74 crore.
The seized narcotics, along with the Kenbo bike and mobile phone, have been transferred to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further examination.
This successful drug seizure highlights the ongoing commitment of the Assam Rifles to disrupt drug trafficking networks, according to a statement from the force.
In related news, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma previously stated that the state is situated near the Golden Triangle, a region infamous for drug trafficking.
While launching the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drugs Free India Campaign) in Aizawl, the Chief Minister mentioned that this geographical positioning has facilitated the continuous influx of drugs into Mizoram.
Lalduhoma emphasized that drugs offer no societal advantages and must be completely eradicated. He urged communities to remain vigilant and united against drug abuse, ensuring the protection of Mizo society from such detrimental influences.
The Chief Minister also encouraged young individuals to completely refrain from drug use, cautioning that even occasional consumption can be the initial step toward addiction.
He further appealed to those already ensnared in addiction to bravely seek recovery and rebuild their lives.
