Aizawl, July 27 (NationPress) In a significant operation, the Assam Rifles have confiscated a large quantity of highly addictive methamphetamine tablets and heroin estimated at Rs 40.05 crore in Mizoram, officials reported on Sunday.
A Defence spokesperson revealed that following intelligence reports, troops from the Assam Rifles conducted an operation in the Melbuk region of the border town Zokhawthar, located in the eastern Champhai district of Mizoram, on Saturday night.
“Upon executing a comprehensive search, the paramilitary personnel uncovered 1.041 kg of heroin and 9.381 kg of methamphetamine tablets, with a total value of approximately 40.05 crore, from an abandoned site,” he stated.
The confiscated narcotics have since been transferred to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). Authorities suspect that the methamphetamine tablets—commonly referred to as Yaba or party tablets—along with the heroin, were trafficked from Myanmar.
