Guwahati, Jan 18 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday launched a vigorous political attack against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, asserting that the citizens of Assam will no longer yield to what he referred to as "Pakistani agents", during his address to reporters after the inauguration of the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project in the Nagaon district.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Assam has experienced a significant transformation and firmly declared that the people of the state will not be intimidated by "unknown forces".
His comments came in response to reports indicating that Gogoi had opposed the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project just a day prior.
"Assam has changed. No Assamese will submit to any Pakistani agent or unidentified individuals. This is a new Assam," Sarma stated.
He also expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating three new train services to the state over the past two days.
Highlighting a resurgence of cultural pride, the Chief Minister noted that nearly 10,000 artists performed the traditional Bagurumba dance in the presence of the Prime Minister, describing the event as a testament to Assam's growing self-assurance and cultural revival.
He further asserted that incidents of rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park have ceased, attributing this success to enhanced conservation and enforcement measures.
Sarma indicated that the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 7,000 crore, will cut travel time by nearly an hour upon its completion while ensuring safe wildlife movement across the region.
With confidence ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the Chief Minister remarked that several large infrastructure projects, once deemed impossible – including numerous Brahmaputra bridges, an underwater tunnel, and the Kaziranga corridor – have now come to fruition.
He confidently stated that the BJP will regain power in Assam in 2026, labeling it a gift to the Prime Minister.
Previously, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project, which involves the four-laning of the Kaliabor-Numaligarh stretch of NH-715 in Nagaon district at a cost exceeding Rs 6,950 crore.
The 86-km corridor includes a 35-km elevated wildlife section through Kaziranga, a 21-km bypass, and the widening of 30 km of NH-715, enhancing connectivity across Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated two Amrit Bharat Express trains – Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Rohtak and Dibrugarh-Lucknow (Gomti Nagar).
