Gandhinagar, Nov 4 (NationPress) The Atal Bridge, an architectural wonder spanning the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad, India's inaugural UNESCO-listed Heritage City, has rapidly become a top destination for tourists from both India and abroad.
Since its official opening by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 27, 2022, this stunning bridge has attracted over 77.71 lakh visitors by October 2025, generating an impressive revenue exceeding Rs 27.70 crore for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
As per the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL), the bridge's management body, the influx of visitors continues to soar.
In the period from April to October 2025 alone, more than 8.5 lakh visitors explored the bridge, contributing Rs 4.82 crore in revenue.
Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 74 crore, the Atal Foot Over Bridge has already enabled AMC to recover over 37 percent of its investment within just three years post-opening.
According to SRFDCL statistics, from August 31, 2022, to March 2023, approximately 21.62 lakh tourists visited, yielding Rs 6.44 crore; from April 2023 to March 2024, 26.89 lakh visitors generated Rs 8.24 crore; and between April 2024 and March 2025, an additional 20.67 lakh people contributed Rs 8.19 crore.
This bridge, named in honor of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has come to symbolize modern urban design and the cultural richness of Gujarat. Its vibrant architecture and picturesque vistas of the Sabarmati Riverfront have made it one of the most photographed locations in the city, especially during festive occasions like Diwali and summer breaks.
Ahmedabad is experiencing remarkable growth in tourism, successfully merging heritage conservation with urban advancement.
