New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) - In light of the Trinamool Congress convening a special session regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, Union Minister of State for Education and Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), Sukanta Majumdar, asserted on Monday that this initiative serves as a distraction from the shocking disclosures surrounding the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scandal.
In an interview with IANS, Majumdar expressed, “This special session is not about protecting voter rights. It is a deliberate distraction from the WBSSC scandal. Following the Supreme Court's order, the Commission revealed a list of 1,804 ineligible candidates linked to the cash-for-jobs scandal. Instead of confronting this issue, the Trinamool is attempting to divert attention with performances like this session.”
He further remarked, “This is unprecedented. The WBSSC itself acknowledges that the government sold jobs. It should be recorded in the Guinness World Records. A similar incident occurred in Haryana, but an investigative body rendered the verdict there. Here, the government is openly admitting its culpability. This is disgraceful.”
On the SIR initiative, Majumdar stressed that such revisions must fall under the purview of the Election Commission of India (ECI), not the state government.
“SIR is essential, indeed, but it must be executed fairly by the ECI. The electoral roll requires reforms to expunge the names of illegal immigrants, including Rohingyas and Bangladeshis. According to the People’s Representation Act, intruders have no voting rights,” he stated.
Majumdar also responded to the Trinamool Congress's decision to involve former cricketer Yusuf Pathan in their 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar.
“Yusuf Pathan is a respected athlete, yet politically, he has minimal influence. If the Trinamool truly believed in the effectiveness of this campaign, they would have sent Mamata Banerjee or Abhishek Banerjee. This indicates they are aware the INDIA Bloc will falter in Bihar, and the NDA will prevail,” he told IANS.
Commenting on BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya’s recent remarks that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “food security” speech was a cruel joke on West Bengal’s underprivileged, Majumdar supported the assertion.
“What Amit Malviya stated is completely accurate. Mamata Banerjee is a master deceiver. She has misled the public for years. However, data doesn't lie. Children in West Bengal are grappling with a serious anemia crisis. According to the statistics cited by Malviya, almost 12 percent of children in Kolkata are underweight. If this is the situation in the capital, one can only speculate about conditions in rural districts,” he concluded.
