Raipur, July 28 (NationPress) Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has voiced strong criticism against Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai's recent proposal for a new law regarding religious conversions, questioning the rationale behind such legislation when a pre-existing law is already in place.
Baghel accused the BJP-led state government of engaging in political theatrics and showing a lack of understanding of legislative history.

In an interview with IANS, Bhupesh Baghel stated, “Vishnu Deo Sai occupies the constitutional role of Chief Minister, yet he appears oblivious to the fact that a law concerning religious conversion was enacted during Raman Singh's administration. The bill was introduced in the Assembly on August 2, 2006, and received approval the following day, August 3. However, it has been languishing between Raj Bhavan and Rashtrapati Bhavan ever since. “Why is the BJP government proposing a new law when an existing one remains unenforced?” Baghel added.
“Merely implement the law that has already been passed. Vishnu Deo Sai seems entirely uninformed. He doesn’t even realize that the previous bill was sanctioned by the Assembly.”
Baghel further expressed concern following the arrest of two Catholic nuns from Kerala in Chhattisgarh.
“Law and order have deteriorated in Chhattisgarh. Individuals are being apprehended without adequate investigations. Complaints should prompt inquiries, not immediate arrests. Venugopal has even reached out to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister regarding this troubling situation,” Baghel remarked.

Nobody dares to question the IG because he does not report to the Chief Minister or anyone above him. The Chief Minister lacks the courage to transfer him,” he concluded.
