New Delhi, Nov 3 (NationPress) Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani on Monday reaffirmed his country's commitment to strengthen cooperation with India, expressing anticipation for discussions that produce substantial results with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar during his current visit to India.
During his opening statements at the 5th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting in New Delhi, Alzayani highlighted that enhancing regional peace will be a primary focus for Bahrain in its forthcoming two-year term at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
"In conclusion, and in line with the high-level commitment from our leadership to this significant partnership, I want to emphasize Bahrain's resolve to deepen our ties with the Republic of India. I am eager for productive discussions that yield tangible results and further strengthen our bilateral cooperation. I am optimistic that our relations will continue to flourish and expand across all levels in the coming years," he stated.
The visiting Foreign Minister mentioned that the economic connections between India and Bahrain are fundamental to their thriving bilateral relationship, with Manama aiming to bolster connectivity with India.
"Although Bahrain and India established diplomatic relations over 50 years ago in 1971, our rich historical connections date back nearly 5,000 years, rooted in trade and cultural exchanges between the ancient civilizations of Dilmun and the Indus Valley. Today, these economic ties remain central to our relations, which have flourished across various sectors. India continues to be one of Bahrain's key trading partners, and both nations recognize that economic cooperation and interdependence are vital for fostering peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
"We aim to enhance greater connectivity between India and our wider region, a goal that hinges on achieving lasting and sustainable peace in the Middle East. Our vision for the region is rooted in dialogue, coexistence, and mutual respect—values that are exemplified daily by the vibrant Indian community in Bahrain and the profound friendship between our nations," he added.
Before the meeting commenced, EAM Jaishankar welcomed his Bahraini counterpart to New Delhi, expressing eagerness for "productive discussions" at the High Joint Commission meeting.
