New Delhi, Nov 3 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar, alongside his Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, co-chaired the 5th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting held in New Delhi on Monday. The leaders took stock of the advancements in their bilateral relationship, putting a spotlight on trade, security, defence, health, culture, and people-to-people ties, while also exploring potential in space, fintech, and cyber sectors.
EAM Jaishankar expressed optimism regarding the strengthening of ties between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as Bahrain assumes the presidency of the GCC.
“I co-chaired the 5th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting with FM Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations, emphasizing trade, security, defence, health, culture, and people-to-people ties, as well as the promising prospects in space, fintech, and cyber domains. With Bahrain taking over the GCC presidency, I am confident that India-GCC ties will continue to evolve,” EAM Jaishankar shared on X.
He also expressed gratitude towards the leadership of Bahrain for their efforts in ensuring the welfare of the Indian community and exchanged views on recent global and regional developments.
During his opening remarks, EAM Jaishankar highlighted that both nations are interconnected through a centuries-old bond formed by trade and robust people-to-people connections. He emphasized their shared objective of fostering peace and prosperity for their citizens.
“India and Bahrain enjoy a long-standing friendship founded on trade and cultural exchanges. We are united in our commitment to promote peace and prosperity for our peoples. Since our last HJC meeting, significant advancements have been made in the fields of defence, security, trade, health, culture, and people-to-people ties. Emerging sectors like space, fintech, and technology hold tremendous potential for our collaboration,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the visiting Foreign Minister noted the importance of economic ties between India and Bahrain, which remain central to their flourishing relationship, with Manama looking to improve connectivity with India.
Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, in his opening remarks, stated, “Although Bahrain and India established diplomatic relations over 50 years ago in 1971, our rich historical ties date back nearly 5,000 years, rooted in trade and cultural exchanges between the ancient civilizations of Dilmun and the Indus Valley. Today, these economic links remain vital to our relationship, which has grown across various sectors. India continues to be one of Bahrain's primary trading partners, and both our nations recognize that economic cooperation and interdependence are essential for fostering peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
