Hyderabad, Aug 7 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar is set to appear as a witness before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is investigating the phone-tapping scandal. He has requested the SIT to examine him and his personal assistants at 12 noon on August 8, following a notice from the SIT asking him to confirm a convenient date and time for his testimony.
Before his scheduled appearance, the minister engaged in discussions with officials from his ministry as well as retired police personnel, particularly those who had served in the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) and the intelligence division.
Bandi Sanjay has alleged that during the governance of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), his phone, along with those of his family and staff, were subjected to illegal surveillance.
The SIT, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police from the Jubilee Hills Division in Hyderabad, initially aimed to question the MoS and his assistants on July 24. However, due to a parliamentary session, the ACP postponed the inquiry to July 28, and subsequently requested to conduct it on August 8.
Upon receiving the SIT notice on July 17, Bandi Sanjay accused former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) of orchestrating the phone tapping, asserting that he had been summoned as a witness.
The MP representing Karimnagar expressed his commitment to fully cooperate with the SIT to ensure the truth is uncovered.
Several political leaders, including Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud and BJP MP Eatala Rajender, have already provided their testimonies to the SIT as witnesses.
The allegations regarding phone tapping emerged in March of the previous year, shortly after the BRS lost power to the Congress party. Last year, four police officials were arrested in connection with the case but were later released on bail.
Former chief of the SIB, Prabhakar Rao, the primary accused in the matter, returned from the United States in June following a Supreme Court directive and has been summoned by the SIT multiple times for questioning.
During the BRS administration, it is alleged that a team within the SIB was formed to intercept communications of opposition leaders, dissenters within BRS, as well as business figures, celebrities, journalists, and even judges, with claims that approximately 600 individuals were targeted.
