Will SIT Question Bandi Sanjay in Phone Tapping Case on Aug 8?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Aug 5 (NationPress) The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar is set to provide his testimony as a witness in the ongoing phone-tapping investigation on August 8.
He has formally asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is looking into the matter to conduct his examination along with his aides at noon on that day.
The SIT, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police from the Jubilee Hills Division in Hyderabad, had previously issued a notice to Bandi Sanjay on July 17, seeking his availability for the examination.
Initially, the ACP aimed to interrogate the Minister and his team on July 24, but this was postponed to July 28 due to the Parliament session.
In a recent update sent to the SIT on August 5, Bandi Sanjay reiterated his request for the examination to take place on August 8.
After receiving the SIT notice, Bandi Sanjay claimed that the former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) was responsible for the phone tapping incident, despite being summoned as a witness.
The BJP leader accused that his own phone, as well as those of his family and staff, were subjected to illegal surveillance.
As the MP representing Karimnagar, he assured the SIT of his full cooperation to ensure the truth is uncovered.
Several political figures, including the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud and BJP MP and former minister Eatala Rajender, have already testified as witnesses before the SIT.
The allegations regarding phone tapping emerged in March of last year, shortly after the BRS party lost its power to Congress.
Last year, police apprehended four officials in connection with the case, who later secured bail.
The main accused, former Chief of the State Intelligence Bureau Prabhakar Rao, returned from the United States in June following Supreme Court instructions and has been summoned repeatedly for questioning by the SIT.
During the BRS administration, it was alleged that a team within the SIB was formed to monitor the communications of opposition leaders, dissenters within BRS, business figures, celebrities, journalists, and even judges.
Previously, Bandi Sanjay questioned the Congress government on why notices had not been issued to KCR, and he also raised concerns regarding the lack of summons for KCR and his son, K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), based on statements from the accused.
