Kolkata, April 2 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee fiercely criticized BJP candidate Shouvik Patra during a campaign rally in Taldangra, situated in Bankura district of West Bengal, as he rallied support for his party's candidate Falguni Singhababu.
Banerjee claimed that the leaders once discarded by the Trinamool Congress have now turned into valuable assets for the BJP.
“The waste we dispose of, the BJP embraces. A complaint against their candidate had previously been lodged at the police station. He was once part of our party’s student wing but was later expelled. Over the past five years, the BJP has deprived Bengal of its rightful funds by stalling several welfare schemes,” Banerjee stated.
“They have taken our discarded leader and nominated him, despite allegations of misconduct against him. On one side stand the educators, while on the other are those involved in deceit and theft. Individuals of integrity do not align with the BJP. Those we have rejected are welcomed by them,” Banerjee added.
Notably, Arup Chakraborty had secured victory in the Assembly elections from Taldangra in 2021 on a Trinamool ticket. He was subsequently nominated by the party for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Bankura constituency, which he won.
Following this, a by-election took place in the Taldangra Assembly constituency, where Falguni Singhababu triumphed. A teacher by profession, he has been nominated once more by the Trinamool Congress for the Assembly elections, highlighting his organizational capabilities.
Expressing confidence in his party’s prospects in Taldangra, Banerjee remarked, “The identity of our candidate Falguni Singhababu is well-known. His skills and commitment to the community are evident. He has transitioned from an organizer to the block youth president of Trinamool. Having contested the by-election, he has been nominated again. This time, victory is only a matter of time.”
After the anticipated win, Banerjee pledged development in Taldangra, stating, “In response to the demands of the Taldangra residents, we will construct a bridge over the Shilavati river and establish a super-specialty hospital here. We must win in four blocks where we are currently lagging in votes.”
