Abhishek Banerjee Launches Fierce Attack on BJP at Rally
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 4 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee intensified his criticism of the BJP during a campaign rally in Barabani, located near Asansol in the West Burdwan district, on Saturday. He accused the BJP of being embroiled in corruption scandals related to the coal smuggling case, stating, "The notoriety of the BJP candidate in this Assembly is widely recognized. There are varied accusations against him, from assaulting Trinamool workers during the Rath Yatra to physically confronting his own party members. Choosing the BJP equates to endorsing a corrupt regime. The party is now under the influence of corrupt individuals and organized crime. Their office in this district is infested with coal smugglers."
For quite some time, Trinamool Congress figures, including Banerjee, have been under scrutiny for their alleged involvement in the coal smuggling scandal, with central investigative agencies summoning multiple leaders for inquiries. On this occasion, Banerjee redirected the same allegations toward the BJP.
He further asserted that the BJP is unlikely to regain power at the national level following the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which is prompting them to meddle in West Bengal's electoral affairs.
While addressing another gathering to support party candidate Kajal Sheikh in the Hasan Assembly constituency of Birbhum district, Banerjee expressed confidence that the Trinamool Congress would have a significant influence if a new government is established at the national level.
"The establishment of a Trinamool Congress government post-Assembly elections is merely a matter of time. I assure you, they will not have a government in the future, which is why they're resorting to vote theft. After the Lok Sabha elections, a new government will emerge in Delhi, with the Trinamool Congress and the people of Bengal playing a pivotal role," he emphasized.
The leadership of Trinamool has consistently accused the BJP-led Central government of stalling funds intended for the state. In reference to this, Banerjee remarked, "The BJP has blocked Rs 2 lakh crore from reaching Bengal. We will reclaim that money within three months."
