Panic Erupts in Rajasthan: Bee Swarm Claims Two Lives at Funeral
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 18 (NationPress) - A series of alarming and unusual bee attacks have ignited widespread fear in the Begun subdivision of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals and over 40 others sustaining injuries, as a funeral turned into a scene of utter chaos.
The unfortunate events unfolded on Tuesday when an 80-year-old man, Jamnalal (also known as Jamnesh), experienced a vicious attack from a swarm of bees while he was engaged in a Havan ceremony in a nearby village. Despite being rushed to the district hospital in severe condition, he sadly passed away early Wednesday morning due to his injuries.
As if the situation couldn’t get worse, during the last rites at the Parsoli Mokshdham (cremation site), another swarm of bees descended upon the mourners who had gathered. Instant panic ensued, with attendees fleeing the scene and abandoning the funeral proceedings.
In the turmoil, approximately 40 to 50 individuals were stung, with seven suffering critical injuries and requiring advanced medical care.
Among those critically injured was 80-year-old Bhawani Shankar Pandya, who endured around 20 bee stings and tragically succumbed just an hour after being admitted to the ICU at the district hospital.
Other victims are currently receiving treatment across various wards, including isolation and general medical units. Given the ongoing threat, local authorities have implemented heightened safety measures.
A small team of medical professionals donned in PPE kits returned to the cremation ground under strict supervision to safely conduct the last rites.
Local officials, such as Sub-Divisional Officer Ankit Samaria and Tehsildar Gopal Jinagar, quickly arrived on-site to manage emergency medical response operations.
The police have initiated an investigation to gather information regarding these peculiar consecutive bee attacks.
Such incidents of bee attacks—first during a religious ritual and then at a funeral—are exceedingly rare and have left the local populace in shock.
Authorities are expected to explore whether environmental changes or disturbances near bee habitats may have contributed to this aggressive behavior.
