Kolkata, Dec 25 (NationPress) The BJP leader of West Bengal, Samik Bhattacharya, during a party assembly on Thursday, urged the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, to avoid making public comments regarding his reasons for joining the BJP ahead of the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections.

In the meeting, Adhikari elaborated on his decision, stating that he did not join the BJP in 2021 out of any personal ambitions or as a result of being expelled from his former party.

He asserted that his transition to the BJP was voluntary, having left his roles in five state government departments and the leadership of three cooperative banks at the invitation of the BJP's central and state authorities.

Following his remarks, Bhattacharya took the opportunity to suggest that Adhikari refrain from providing public clarifications about his party affiliation moving forward.

“I would kindly ask Adhikari to stop making such public explanations, as he is already well-established within the BJP,” he noted.

However, Bhattacharya did not elaborate further on his reasoning for this request.

Insiders indicated that Bhattacharya aimed to convey to both Adhikari and the state leadership that the Leader of the Opposition no longer needed to justify his commitment to the BJP.

“Our state president signaled that Adhikari is as valued in the party as any of the long-standing members who have been with the BJP since its inception,” commented a member of the West Bengal BJP committee.

In his address, Bhattacharya also discussed how leaders like Adhikari, who transitioned from other parties, contributed significantly to the BJP's growth in West Bengal.

“There is no longer a distinction between an ‘old BJP’ and a ‘new BJP’; it is simply the BJP now,” Bhattacharya emphasized.
