Kolkata, March 8 (NationPress) Videos confirming that Jadavpur University (JU) students were struck by the car of West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu during the disturbances on the university grounds on March 1 have been presented to the authorities, stated CPI(M) youth leader and former state secretary of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Srijan Bhattacharya, on Saturday.
Bhattacharya underwent a lengthy interrogation lasting about three hours in connection with the events of March 1.
However, there has been no official response from the police regarding the assertions made by Bhattacharya after leaving the police station.
He was instructed to appear at the local Jadavpur Police Station on Saturday evening, bringing all video evidence and photographs related to the disturbances on March 1.
Recently, during a media interaction, Bhattacharya showcased some images and video clips to support SFI’s allegations that two students were injured after being struck by the minister’s vehicle.
As such, he arrived at the police station around 7 p.m., reportedly equipped with all the necessary documents. Upon his arrival, SFI activists gathered outside the police station, asserting they would remain there until their leaders emerged.
To recall, the chaos erupted on March 1 when the Minister’s car was allegedly halted after entering the campus, leading to a confrontation. The students were insisting on immediate elections for the university’s student council.
The protesting students claimed that while Basu attempted to leave the campus amid the demonstrations, his vehicle intentionally struck two protesting students, resulting in severe injuries that required hospitalization. During the protests, the Minister sustained minor injuries and fell ill. He was subsequently taken to the state-operated S.S.K.M. Medical College & Hospital and was released later.
