Bengaluru, May 7 (NationPress) The Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services Department held a mock drill and public awareness campaign titled 'Operation Abhyas' in the Halasuru area on Wednesday. The exercise simulated an emergency scenario to demonstrate various responses, including civilian rescue, fire control, and first aid for the injured.
Fire and emergency personnel displayed their preparedness by rescuing civilians trapped in buildings using a fully-equipped aerial ladder vehicle. They also outlined precautionary measures citizens should take when a siren sounds.
Present at the event were BJP MP K. Sudhakar, DGP Alok Mohan, Fire and Emergency Services DGP Prashant Kumar Thakur, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, Home Department Secretary S. Ravi, DIG Ravi D. Channannavar, and other senior officials.
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding the current national security situation. He stated, "The recent events in Kashmir have brought sorrow to every Indian, with twenty-six innocent individuals suddenly attacked and killed. Remembering that incident is painful. Our soldiers at the borders have endured tremendous hardships. The Armed Forces have conducted strikes on nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan, but a shadow of war looms over the nation, raising fears of potential conflict with Pakistan.
Parameshwara noted that the Union government has instructed all states to enhance public awareness. "Educating citizens on self-protection, responsibilities, and maintaining peace during chaotic times is crucial, as is learning how to transport the injured to hospitals. 'Operation Abhyas' is designed to raise civil defense awareness," he added.
Key sites such as reservoirs, nuclear plants, industrial zones, and densely populated areas have been identified. "Raichur hosts the power generation facility that supplies electricity to the entire state; Karwar contains a nuclear site; and Bengaluru plays a vital role in the national economy. Every moment is critical during defense operations, and actions must be precise and swift.
During conflict-like situations, predicting the timing and location of incidents is impossible. Such situations must be avoided. Students in schools, colleges, and universities should be informed, and fire and emergency personnel must visit these institutions to raise necessary awareness," he concluded.
