Bengaluru, April 10 (NationPress) The police in Bengaluru are set to send out notices to individuals who have either shared or promoted a viral video that asserts the widespread use of a so-called “zombie drug.” They have cautioned that legal action will be pursued against those disseminating unverified claims.

City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh announced on Friday that notices would be dispatched to everyone who circulated the video on various social media platforms. He emphasized the importance of taking stringent action against the propagation of unfounded allegations. According to him, over 25 individuals are expected to receive notices in the initial phase.

This situation escalated after a video purportedly depicting a man from Bengaluru under the influence of a so-called “zombie drug” gained traction online. However, the Police Commissioner clarified that no evidence of drug use was discovered. The individual featured in the video was located, underwent medical testing, and was found to be free of narcotic substances, as confirmed by the Commissioner.

The Bagalur police have taken into custody Hemanth, the individual responsible for posting the video. He has since apologized through another video. The police reported that the accused claimed in his clip that such drug use is common in other countries.

Commissioner Singh stressed that any comments or conclusions should rely solely on medical reports and verified information. He warned against defamation or character assassination based on mere speculation, stating that action would be taken against anyone who publishes or shares misleading content.

Furthermore, he cautioned that individuals making unverified allegations or spreading false information on social media could face legal repercussions. The investigation into the accused individual is ongoing.

The video garnered widespread attention, being shared by various individuals, including actor Duniya Vijay and former Police Commissioner, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bhaskar Rao. The police indicated that these individuals might also receive notices as part of the ongoing investigations.

Authorities have reiterated that the dissemination of misinformation without substantiation will not be tolerated and have urged the community to use social media responsibly.

It is noteworthy that the Karnataka Police apprehended the man who posted the viral video asserting the availability of “zombie drugs” in Bengaluru city on Friday. Home Minister G. Parameshwara clarified that such drugs do not exist in Bengaluru, explaining that the individual in the video had consumed alcohol along with tablets, resulting in his unusual behavior on a public road.

The Bagalur police have arrested Hemanth Kumar, a resident of Vidyaranyapura. He recorded the video three days prior and shared it on social media. The clip depicted a man behaving like a “zombie” due to his body language on a busy road during daylight.

The police successfully located the man seen in the video, who underwent a medical examination to check for narcotics. The tests revealed no narcotic substances present.

Hemanth Kumar works as a field executive for an eyewear brand. Police investigations uncovered that while he was traveling on Bagalur Main Road at approximately 11:30 AM on April 7, he encountered a man in an intoxicated state, struggling to walk and acting strangely. He recorded a 32-second video of the man and posted it on his Instagram account, according to police reports.

The police traced him using the scooter visible in the video. The clip subsequently went viral, raising alarms about alleged “zombie drugs.”
