Bhopal, Jan 29 (NationPress) Sharad Jaiswal, a crucial associate and business partner of former Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Constable Saurabh Sharma, was presented in a Bhopal court on Wednesday.
Jaiswal was apprehended by the Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta police when he arrived to surrender at the district court in Bhopal on Tuesday, where they interrogated him.
The court has placed him in a six-day police (Lokayukta) custody until February 4.
The main accused, Saurabh Sharma, along with another co-accused, Chetan Gaur, were arrested and brought before the court on Tuesday, where they were assigned to a seven-day police custody.
For the upcoming five days, the Lokayukta police will interrogate the trio—Saurabh Sharma, Chetan Gaur, and Sharad Jaiswal—together to ascertain the sources of their disproportionate assets uncovered during the raids.
This trio has been evading authorities since the first raid by the Lokayukta at Saurabh Sharma's premises in Gwalior and Bhopal over 40 days ago.
Notably, Saurabh Sharma's case gained significant attention when Income Tax officials discovered 52 kg of gold valued at over Rs 40 crores and Rs 9.86 crores in cash from an abandoned vehicle on December 19.
The car, which had a registration number linked to Chetan Gaur from Gwalior RTO, was found late at night in Mindori village of Bhopal, allegedly belonging to him.
Subsequently, following a complaint from the Lokayukta, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches in multiple locations and seized properties valued in crores.
Over the past month, the ED has raided more than 12 offices and residences associated with Saurabh Sharma and his relatives believed to be linked to this case.
As per official sources, the ED also interrogated Sharma's wife and mother on Monday, but they were released after a few hours of questioning.
Saurabh Sharma began his career as a Constable in the Transport department in 2016 due to compassionate grounds following his father’s death, a government doctor at Gwalior district hospital, in 2015.
He served as an RTO constable for 12 years before opting for voluntary retirement in 2023.
