Bhopal, Feb 17 (NationPress) A district court in Bhopal has prolonged the judicial custody of former RTO constable Saurabh Sharma alongside his two accomplices Chetan Gaur and Sharad Jaiswal for an additional 14 days. They appeared in court following the conclusion of their 6-day custody with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday.

The trio will remain in judicial remand until March 3, 2025.

Sharma and his associates are embroiled in a corruption case and were transferred to the ED's custody for interrogation concerning a case of disproportionate assets on February 12. They were apprehended by the Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta Police on January 28 and 29 due to properties valued in crores seized during their premises' raids.

Following this, the ED, which is conducting a concurrent investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), took them into custody for questioning. Their initial raids occurred on December 27 of the previous year, targeting at least eight locations across the state, including Bhopal, Gwalior, and Jabalpur. The searches encompassed residences belonging to Saurabh Sharma, Chetan Singh Gaur, Sharad Jaiswal, and others.

As per earlier statements from the ED, during the raids, they identified movable assets in the form of fixed deposits exceeding Rs 6 crore in the name of Chetan Singh Gaur, while over Rs 4 crore in bank balances were discovered in the names of Saurabh Sharma's family members and their companies. The ED also recovered documentation related to immovable assets and properties worth more than Rs 23 crore linked to various companies and relatives of Saurabh Sharma.

On January 17, the ED conducted further raids across several locations, including Pune, Gwalior, and Bhopal, where they uncovered cash and valuables amounting to Rs 52 lakh. Meanwhile, the Income Tax (IT) department had discovered over 52 kg of gold and cash totaling Rs 11 crore from an abandoned vehicle belonging to Chetan Gaur but had yet to file a court application for interrogation.
