How Bhopal Farmer Ram Singh Kushwaha Transformed His Income with Horticulture Development
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, March 6 (NationPress) With the support of the Central government's Integrated Horticulture Development Mission, local farmer Ram Singh Kushwaha has transformed his approach to horticulture, significantly enhancing his flower production through automated technology while expanding his market reach beyond Madhya Pradesh.
Having relied on traditional farming methods for many years, Kushwaha faced numerous financial hurdles stemming from escalating costs and minimal profits.
Three years ago, he received vital financial aid and guidance from the state's Horticulture department.
Utilizing the resources provided under the National Development Project, Kushwaha erected a polyhouse measuring 1,000 square feet and began cultivating flowers, specifically roses and gerberas.
This year, to optimize his flower yield and minimize expenses, he implemented a sensor-driven automation system within his polyhouse.
This advanced system ensures the precise delivery of water, fertilizers, and pesticides to his one-acre plot, operating continuously without manual intervention.
This innovation not only saves time but also reduces costs associated with water and fertilizers.
In recent years, Kushwaha has planted 30,000 hybrid gerbera plants on his one-acre farm, adopting drip and sprinkler irrigation techniques, benefitting from a 50% subsidy.
His flowers are now being distributed to markets in Lucknow, Delhi, and Jaipur.
"Thanks to modern technology and scientific farming methods, Kushwaha is now producing between 1,500 and 2,000 flowers daily, achieving sales of 4,000 to 5,000 rupees per day from 4,000 flower spikes. His venture into flower and fruit farming has significantly improved his financial stability," stated a government press release.
The government of Madhya Pradesh highlighted that Kushwaha's experience exemplifies not only economic advancement but also serves as a testament that with proper support, cutting-edge technology, and government initiatives, farming can evolve into a lucrative enterprise.
Kushwaha, a resident of Barkheda Bondar village in Bhopal, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
"The government's Integrated Horticulture Development Mission has empowered us towards self-reliance and granted us a new status in our community," Kushwaha remarked.
