Will Bhopal Host a State-Level Flower Exhibition?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, Jan 27 (NationPress) A dynamic state-level flower exhibition is set to take place in Bhopal on January 30 at the Rose Garden, themed 'Vibrant'.
The purpose of this event is to demonstrate the state's expanding capabilities in floriculture and to underline initiatives aimed at enhancing farmers' earnings through the commercial cultivation of flowers.
During a press conference, Horticulture and Food Processing Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha revealed that Madhya Pradesh stands second in the nation for flower production.
“Flowers are cultivated over approximately 45,000 hectares, yielding an annual output of around 5 million metric tons. Approximately 4,000 farmers are engaged in floriculture, significantly boosting the rural economy,” he stated.
He further mentioned that the state government is dedicated to establishing a solid commercial framework for flower production, aiming to double the incomes of farmers.
The Minister expressed that the long-term objective is to establish Madhya Pradesh as a frontrunner in this sector, with this year being recognized as the Agriculture Year 2026.
“Plans are in motion to create dedicated flower production clusters near religious sites and major urban areas with high flower demand,” he remarked.
The Minister also highlighted the significance of the upcoming Kumbh Mela in Ujjain in 2028 as a substantial opportunity.
According to him, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, efforts are underway to develop a specialized flower production zone covering approximately 100 acres around Ujjain.
“This initiative will guarantee a consistent supply of high-quality flowers for the vast religious event, while also generating jobs and economic advantages for local farmers,” the Minister noted.
The Minister pointed out the achievements of smaller districts like Guna, where farmers have established a unique identity in rose production.
“Roses from our state are gaining acclaim not only in domestic markets such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, but also internationally,” he added.
Additionally, he mentioned that the department has integrated flower production with the Prime Minister's Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME).
“Numerous farmers are reaping benefits from this scheme by producing value-added products from flowers, including essential oils, garlands, and other processed goods, thus enhancing their income,” the Minister elaborated.
Kushwaha underscored that these initiatives align with the government's vision of promoting sustainable agriculture and enhancing rural prosperity.
He concluded by stating that the forthcoming exhibition will act as a platform for farmers, experts, and buyers to share knowledge, explore innovations, and strengthen market connections.
