Bhopal, Jan 11 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh is poised to initiate a groundbreaking chapter for its agricultural sector as the state formally announces 2026 as the 'Agriculture Year' through a spectacular rally and extensive programme slated for Sunday at 'Jumboori Maidan, BHEL', Bhopal.
The year-long venture, branded with the inspiring tagline 'Prosperous Farmers – Prosperous State', is designed to enhance the profitability, sustainability, and technological advancement of agriculture, positioning it as a vital catalyst for youth employment and rural self-sufficiency.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, a key advocate of this vision, underscored the essential role of agriculture in elevating impoverished families and farming communities.
"Agriculture-related activities have substantial potential to create job opportunities and promote self-sufficiency among young people," he remarked.
Addressing attendees at the event, he noted that the connection between farming and farmers will endure perpetually.
The Chief Minister stressed that the state's varied landscape provides extensive opportunities for agricultural innovation, affirming the government's dedication to significantly boost farmer incomes.
Following a recent high-level meeting at the Vidhan Sabha Committee Hall, Dr. Yadav provided comprehensive directives for the celebrations throughout the year.
The assembly included Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Aidal Singh Kansana, Independent Charge Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Lakhan Patel, former minister Gopal Bhargava, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, and other notable officials.
Surpassing the previous goal of doubling farmers' income, the primary aim of Agriculture Year 2026 is to revolutionize the agricultural sector into a lucrative, sustainable, and employment-creating framework.
The government intends to emphasize advanced agricultural practices, robust market connections, and a self-sufficient rural economy led by empowered farmers.
A detailed monthly calendar has been developed, featuring a variety of festivals, fairs, and events at state, district, and block levels, engaging farmers, NGOs, and progressive agriculturists, according to government sources.
This year will prioritize natural farming initiatives in every village, improved market prices for organic products, modernization of agricultural markets, soil conservation, horticulture expansion, food processing, livestock development, dairy, and innovations in fisheries.
Cluster development at the district level will integrate agriculture with related sectors such as animal husbandry, fisheries, and forestry, with a formal programme set to be unveiled on Saturday.
Special attention will be directed towards emerging employment opportunities like drone services, management of Farmer-Producer Organizations (FPOs), food processing facilities, and hydroponics.
Activities at the district and block levels will include soil health testing camps, promotion of modern farming techniques, natural farming methods, and balanced fertilizer application.
State-level 'Agro Vision' programmes will highlight critical areas including coarse grains, cattle breeding, milk production, makhana, mushrooms, beekeeping, paddy, mango, soybean, agricultural exports, cotton, chillies, fisheries, residue management, and horticultural crops.
