Bhopal, March 4 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Tuesday that the government plans to erect gates at the main entry points and several key roads in Bhopal, named after esteemed and historic Hindu leaders of the region.
"These entry gates will commemorate legendary figures and warriors, notably Raja Bhoj, Samrat Vikramaditya, and others, who contributed to the development of Bhopal and established effective governance during their rule. Subsequently, similar gates will be constructed in Indore, Ujjain, and Jabalpur," he stated.
The district authorities have been assigned with the task of pinpointing specific roads and entry points for the installation of these gates.
In a media statement released on Tuesday, Chief Minister Yadav emphasized the decision to uphold the rich history of Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh.
"The main entry gates of Bhopal, the capital of our state, will honor our great rulers such as Raja Bhoj and Samrat Vikramaditya. This initiative aims to revive the glorious history of Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh, which made both the state and the nation proud," CM Yadav remarked.
He further noted that Samrat Vikramaditya reigned approximately 2100 years ago, exemplifying principles of justice, courage, wisdom, generosity, patience, and valor.
About 1,000 years after Vikramaditya, Raja Bhoj governed Bhopal, and many of his contributions still exist today.
"The bada talab (Upper Lake) is one of the most significant examples of Raja Bhoj's legacy. This lake is a primary water source for the residents of Bhopal, which is why we have resolved to name the gates after him in Bhopal," the Chief Minister added.
Currently, a sizable statue of Raja Bhoj stands at the Upper Lake in Bhopal, serving as a tribute to the king credited with constructing the water body by building a dam across the Kolar River, leading to the lake being referred to as "Bhojtal" in his honor.
Additionally, the local airport is recognized as Raja Bhoj Airport.
