Patna, Sep 10 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, on Wednesday, allocated a total of Rs 1,263.95 crore to 1.13 crore beneficiaries under the Social Security Pension Scheme using Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Recently, the Bihar government enhanced the social security pension from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100 each month.
Eligible individuals for this scheme include senior citizens over the age of 60 years, widows, and individuals with disabilities.
The funds are deposited directly into the beneficiaries' bank accounts on the 10th of every month.
The event was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha and Social Welfare Minister Madan Sahni.
Beneficiaries include participants of the Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Yojana, Lakshmibai Social Security Pension Scheme, Bihar Nishaktata Pension Yojana, Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, and Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme.
During a video-conferenced program, the Chief Minister engaged with numerous beneficiaries who shared how the pension has positively impacted their lives.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also viewed short films highlighting the experiences of the beneficiaries.
Many beneficiaries expressed that the increased monthly pension of Rs 1,100 has significantly eased their financial burdens.
One beneficiary, Chintamani Devi, remarked, "My son does not give me even two rupees when I ask, but Nitish Kumar has provided me this support. I am grateful to him for it."
The Chief Minister was taken aback by such social realities, emphasizing that the government's pension schemes are designed to uphold the dignity and financial stability of vulnerable populations.
CM Nitish Kumar has implemented various measures for the welfare of Bihar's citizens, with the social security pension being one of the key initiatives.
Additionally, he has introduced a 35 percent reservation for women in government jobs and raised the honorarium for numerous contractual employees in sectors such as education, health, and family welfare.
