Patna, July 16 (NationPress) The Bihar government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has elevated the pension amount from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100. This increase is filling the hearts of senior citizens, widows, and individuals with disabilities with joy. While the rise may seem modest, it significantly aids in covering their monthly expenses and managing unforeseen circumstances.
A special event to celebrate this pension increment was held in Sheikhpura district on Wednesday. The event featured a live broadcast at the town hall, where both male and female beneficiaries from various parts of the district attended.
District in-charge minister Raju Kumar Singh, District Magistrate Arif Ahsan, ADM, and officials from social security were present at the event.
During his address, minister Raju Kumar Singh emphasized the government’s dedication to the social and economic welfare of the district’s senior citizens.
“This year, we’ve seen an increase in the number of beneficiaries of the old-age pension scheme. The elderly in our state will receive timely financial assistance,” he stated.
Beneficiary Sonpari Devi expressed her gratitude, stating that the Nitish Kumar-led government has shown compassion towards the underprivileged.
“In the past, our pension was just Rs 400, which was insufficient and caused us great difficulties,” she explained.
She continued, “There were times when my son sacrificed his meals for me, but now with the new amount of Rs 1,100, we face no issues.”
Devi further noted that the government has made significant contributions to the elderly, and her family hopes for the Nitish government’s re-election.
It’s noteworthy that last month, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced this pension enhancement for senior citizens, widows, and the disabled, increasing the figure by Rs 700. The pension, previously at Rs 400, has now surged to Rs 1,100.
The first installment of the elevated pension amount of Rs 1,100 per month was successfully transferred to the bank accounts of over 11 million beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
According to official reports, more than Rs 1,227 crore was deposited into the accounts of individuals, including senior citizens and women, across six different pension schemes.
