Patna, July 11 (NationPress) As Bihar gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday distributed social security pensions to 1.11 crore beneficiaries from his official residence in Patna, granting them Rs 1,100 each through various state welfare schemes.
A substantial sum of Rs 1,227.27 crore was directly transferred to the beneficiaries' accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Bihar's Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha were also in attendance at the event.
“Previously, we offered Rs 400 as a social security pension, which has now been raised to Rs 1,100 to support widows, disabled individuals, and senior citizens under various government initiatives,” remarked Kumar.
While discussing his administration's efforts in promoting women’s empowerment, the Chief Minister noted the 50 percent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions and highlighted improvements in their societal standing.
“In the past, women faced significant challenges, but now they can dress better and live with dignity. Our government is dedicated to enhancing the living conditions of all societal segments. We prioritize giving respect and security to everyone, and we are unwavering in this commitment,” he stated.
In a critique of the Opposition and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, Kumar commented, “Over the last 20 years, they have contributed little. Prior to 2005, things were different; we mistakenly allied with RJD twice, but have they accomplished anything noteworthy?”
He asserted that a new political era is dawning in Bihar, stressing that everyone will advance collectively towards development.
“We will not stray from our path in the future; instead, we will unite for the state’s progress,” he declared, addressing Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
Reinforcing his dedication to women's advancement, Kumar indicated that his administration has made significant decisions and launched multiple schemes aimed at elevating women's conditions in Bihar.
