Patna, Feb 12 (NationPress) A district court in Begusarai has sentenced Vikas Kumar, also known as Vikas Singh, to death for his involvement in the triple murder case from Machha village in 2019, which falls under the Singhaul police station jurisdiction.

The ruling was delivered via video conference by District and Sessions Judge-III Brajesh Kumar Singh, as the accused is currently incarcerated at Beur Jail, Patna.

Notably, this marks the first occasion in Begusarai where a death sentence has been issued through video conferencing.

The prosecution revealed that the murders were the result of a protracted feud over four acres of family land.

Previously, in 2012, Vikas Kumar had allegedly killed his uncle, Arun Singh, over the same land dispute and received a life sentence. A separate case concerning the murder of his aunt, Munni Devi, in 2017 is still awaiting a verdict.

The victims included Kunal Singh, who was Vikas' brother and a key witness in the earlier cases. The prosecution argued that Vikas had threatened family members to discourage them from testifying against him, and when they resisted, he plotted their murders.

On the fateful night of October 27, 2019, Vikas allegedly shot his brother Kunal, sister-in-law Kanchan Devi, and 17-year-old niece Sonam Kumari in their home.

During his escape, he reportedly confronted his nephew Shivam Kumar and attempted to shoot him, but the bullet missed, allowing Shivam to survive.

When Shivam entered the house, he discovered the lifeless bodies of his parents and sister.

The case was presented by Additional Public Prosecutor Ram Prakash Yadav. Several witnesses, including Babu Saheb Singh, Vijay Singh, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Satyam Kumar, eyewitness Shivam Kumar, and investigating officer Manish Kumar Singh, testified during the trial.

Based on the testimonies of eyewitnesses, medical evidence, and investigative results, the court found the defendant guilty and imposed the death penalty, which has garnered significant attention in the Begusarai district due to the severity of the crimes and the manner of sentencing.
