Bihar CM targets 3 lakh projects under VB-G RAM G rural mission, ₹22,000 crore push
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday, 5 November 2026, chaired a high-level review meeting in Patna on the implementation of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee Rojgar and Ajiveeka Mission (Rural), or VB-G RAM G, directing officials to double the number of active projects from 1.5 lakh to 3 lakh and channel development spending worth ₹22,000 crore through the mission. The push aims to accelerate rural employment generation and infrastructure development across Bihar's villages.
Mission Framework and Employment Guarantee
Under VB-G RAM G, rural households are guaranteed 125 days of employment annually, with expenditure shared between the Centre and the state government in a 60:40 ratio. Chief Minister Choudhary stressed that workers must receive their wages within the stipulated period of 15 days — a directive aimed at plugging the persistent delays that have dogged rural employment schemes in the state. H.R. Srinivas, Additional Chief Secretary of the Rural Development Department, briefed the meeting on the mission's features, action plan and implementation strategy.
Key Infrastructure Directives
Choudhary directed officials to expedite construction of Anganwadi centres, additional school classrooms, healthcare facilities, rural markets, playgrounds and other essential village infrastructure. An allocation of ₹12 lakh has been earmarked per Anganwadi centre, with an additional ₹2 lakh set aside for furniture, educational materials and ancillary facilities. The Chief Minister underlined that all essential infrastructure requirements across villages must be treated as a priority, with District Magistrates mandated to maintain regular oversight.
Four Core Project Categories
Projects under the mission will be executed across four major categories: water security, rural infrastructure, livelihood enhancement and disaster management. On water conservation specifically, Choudhary directed the renovation and restoration of canals, reservoirs and water-related structures, and instructed the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department to meet targets for water conservation and afforestation. Coordinated efforts in tree plantation and rainwater harvesting were flagged as essential to maintaining groundwater levels.
Technology, Transparency and Social Audits
Choudhary called for phased project implementation, greater use of technology for monitoring and transparency, effective social audits and prompt redressal of public grievances. Under the linked Seva Sankalp evam Kayakalp Abhiyan, officials were directed to develop Gramin Haats (rural markets) to stimulate the rural economy and complete pending classroom additions in government schools. The Chief Minister said these combined initiatives should ultimately raise living standards for rural families and advance the vision of a developed Bihar.
Senior Officials Present
The review meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Building Construction Minister Leshi Singh and other senior officials of the Bihar government. This comes amid Bihar's broader push to align state rural spending with the Centre's Viksit Bharat framework ahead of the next budgetary cycle.
