Bihar Goods Train Divides After Coupling Failure

Patna, Dec 14 (NationPress) A goods train divided into two segments after its coupling failed close to the Kharia-Pipra halt on the Bhagalpur-Jamalpur route in Bihar on Saturday, disrupting traffic in the area.
The event took place at 8:58 a.m., halting train operations on both the up and down lines for several hours.
Following the coupling failure, 10 coaches and the engine advanced forward, leaving behind 20 coaches.
Railway officials arrived promptly at the scene and took swift action to address the issue.
The forward 10 coaches were sent to Kalyanpur station, while the remaining 20 coaches were taken to Sultanganj station to clear the tracks.
Mohammad Aqlib, the Railways Station Master at the Kharia-Pipra halt, verified the details of the incident.
"Upon learning of the situation, we immediately notified senior officials in Jamalpur, who dispatched a relief train and engine," Aqlib stated.
The mishap disturbed train schedules, emphasizing the necessity for regular maintenance and inspection of rolling stock to avert such operational issues, as noted by an eyewitness.
The incident not only affected goods train operations but also caused inconvenience to local commuters. A railway crossing near the site was closed for about two hours, resulting in a lengthy queue of vehicles and distress among those waiting.
The goods train, which split while traveling at high speed, narrowly escaped a major disaster, due to the quick thinking of the driver and guard. Their vigilance prevented the train from derailing, ensuring that no damage was inflicted on other trains or individuals at the scene.
After the tracks were cleared, train services resumed, with the Danapur-Sahibganj Intercity being the first train to operate from the Jamalpur side.
Following that, additional trains were dispatched, gradually restoring the disrupted rail traffic.
Despite the initial disorder, the situation was managed adeptly without any injuries or significant property damage.
