Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 5 (NationPress) Tragically, a minimum of six pilgrims lost their lives when they were struck by a train at Chunar railway station in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday morning, according to officials.
As per reports, the victims had just disembarked from a train and were trying to navigate across the railway tracks when a high-speed train on the adjacent track collided with them. The force of the collision was devastating, resulting in the bodies being severely disfigured.
This unfortunate incident occurred at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, and the remains have been forwarded for post-mortem analysis.
Mirzapur GRP Inspector Raghavendra Singh noted that the pilgrims had arrived at Chunar from Sonbhadra via the Prayagraj-Barwadih passenger train. Their destination was Varanasi, and as they attempted to cross from one platform to another, the Kalka Mail sped past the station, culminating in this tragedy.
Witnesses reported that the pilgrims were returning to Dakshinanchal after performing a holy dip in the Ganga River. Following the accident, there was widespread panic as people rushed to assist. Personnel from the RPF and GRP quickly arrived on the scene to initiate rescue and relief efforts.
