New Delhi, Feb 15 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, at least 10 individuals from Korba, Chhattisgarh, who were traveling to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, lost their lives when their vehicle collided with a bus filled with pilgrims from Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, on the Mirzapur-Prayagraj highway in the early hours of Saturday.

According to police reports, the victims were traveling at high speed in a Bolero SUV when the crash occurred.

All passengers in the SUV were devotees from Chhattisgarh, making their way to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh late Friday night.

In addition, 19 others sustained injuries in this high-speed collision, which took place after midnight.

The pilgrims in the Bolero were aiming to take a sacred dip at the Sangam on Saturday morning.

Interestingly, the bus involved in the accident was also carrying pilgrims from Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh.

Prayagraj Additional SP Vivek Chandra Yadav informed IANS, "Ten individuals died following a collision between a car transporting devotees from Chhattisgarh to the Maha Kumbh and a bus. The accident transpired on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway around midnight. An investigation is ongoing."

In light of this devastating accident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed local officials to promptly reach the scene and facilitate relief efforts.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for proper medical care for the 19 injured individuals.

The remains of the deceased have been transferred to Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital for autopsy.

This incident marks yet another tragedy involving devotees traveling to or from the Maha Kumbh.

In a similar event on Tuesday, seven people returning from the Maha Kumbh in Andhra Pradesh perished when their tempo traveler collided with a truck on a highway in Jabalpur district, Madhya Pradesh.

Authorities have urged devotees to exercise caution while driving, particularly late at night.

The Maha Kumbh, recognized as the world’s largest spiritual gathering, commenced on January 13 and will run until February 26, coinciding with Maha Shivaratri.
