Jaipur, Feb 13 (NationPress) At least three individuals lost their lives and two others suffered serious injuries when the bus they were on collided with a parked truck on the Delhi-Mumbai eight-lane expressway in Rajasthan. The bus was transporting devotees returning from the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
The injured have been rushed to MBS Hospital in Kota for urgent care.
The group was on their way back to Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh after participating in the holy dip at Maha Kumbh. The tragic incident took place near Karodia in Simliya (Kota) in the morning hours.
As per information from police station ASI Hariraj Singh, the collision occurred around 6:30 a.m.
The bus was carrying around 56 passengers, all of whom hailed from Mandsaur. While traversing the expressway, the bus crashed into a stationary truck.
Five passengers sustained severe injuries and were promptly referred to Kota for medical treatment, while the rest emerged unscathed.
ASI Singh confirmed that three passengers perished, and two others were critically hurt. The deceased have been sent to the mortuary.
Upon notification of the crash, the Simliya police hurried to the site, launched rescue efforts, and transported the injured to the closest medical facility with ambulance aid. ASI Hariraj Singh stated, "The incident was logged around 6:30 in the morning. Approximately 56 passengers were aboard the bus, all residents of Mandsaur in MP. They were returning after performing their rituals in Prayagraj. A truck was parked on the highway that morning, and the bus struck it from behind."
The deceased have been identified as Kailash Bai (54), Kishori Lal (60), and Ashok (35). Kailash and Kishori Lal were a married couple. "Chaman Lal and Parvati were injured. They were seated in the cabin of the bus and are receiving treatment at MBS Hospital," the ASI reported.
The bus driver has since fled the scene, according to the officer.
The accident caused a brief disruption in traffic on the expressway, but authorities swiftly managed to restore order.
Initial investigations indicate that speeding may have been the leading cause of the crash. It is believed that the bus driver lost control, resulting in the collision with the parked truck.
