Tragic Bus Accident Claims Lives of Three Pilgrims in Koraput, Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Dec 29 (NationPress) At least three individuals lost their lives and 20 others suffered severe injuries when a bus transporting pilgrims encountered an accident at Sukunala Ghati within the jurisdiction of Boipariguda police station in Odisha's Koraput district on Sunday.
The bus, which was carrying approximately 50 to 60 pilgrims from various locations in the Puri and Cuttack districts, was heading towards the renowned Gupteswar shrine in Koraput. Local reports indicated that the vehicle lost control and overturned at a curve in Sukunala during the early hours of the morning.
Upon receiving the alert, police, fire service personnel, and BSF officials promptly arrived at the scene to assist in the rescue of passengers trapped within the bus. Sadly, among the deceased were three individuals, including a 12-year-old boy, who perished in this tragic road incident.
The injured passengers received initial treatment at Boipariguda Hospital, while those in critical condition were subsequently transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jeypore, Koraput.
“I was jolted awake at approximately 5:05 a.m. today as the vehicle lost its stability. I quickly escaped through the emergency window,” recounted one of the survivors.
A relative of an injured pilgrim from the Nilai area of Cuttack district informed the media that her sister and brother-in-law, along with over 50 fellow pilgrims from Nimapara and Cuttack, had departed for the Gupteswar shrine on Friday night.
“We were just notified today that my sister is receiving treatment at Boipariguda Hospital following the accident,” the relative stated.
In response to the heartbreaking incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his condolences to the grieving families of the deceased on Sunday. He also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives and instructed the local administration to ensure medical assistance for the injured pilgrims.
The police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
