Bhopal, Feb 22 (NationPress) At least 15 passengers suffered injuries when a private bus traveling from Pipariya in Narmadapuram district to Chhindwara overturned near Renikheda village in Chhindwara district on Sunday, according to police reports.

The incident took place around 10 a.m. as the bus, with registration number MP-04-PA-2644, lost control and rolled onto the roadside.

Authorities suspect that overspeeding or a potential mechanical failure may have contributed to the accident, with initial investigations indicating that the vehicle was moving at a high velocity, leading to the driver losing control.

Fortunately, the bus had a relatively small number of passengers onboard at that time, which helped avoid a more severe incident.

Preliminary findings also suggest that the bus's steering mechanism may have locked unexpectedly, which further exacerbated the situation.

Upon being alerted, officers from the Mahuljhir police station quickly arrived at the scene and, with the help of local residents, facilitated the rescue of the injured, transporting them to Tamia Hospital for urgent medical attention.

According to law enforcement officials, 10 to 11 passengers who incurred significant injuries were subsequently referred to the Community Health Centre in Pipariya for additional care, while those with minor injuries received first aid and were later discharged.

“Three individuals are reported to be in critical condition,” stated a police official.

The bus driver, identified as Amar, sustained a serious head injury and was transferred to the district hospital for specialized treatment, with his condition currently being classified as critical.

Police later arranged for a crane to clear the overturned bus from the roadway, restoring normal traffic flow on the route.

A case has been filed at the Mahuljhir police station, and an investigation is underway to determine the precise cause of the accident. Officers are assessing factors including vehicle speed, mechanical condition, and road circumstances, and are also collecting witness statements to piece together the sequence of events.

Pipariya is a significant transit hub for tourists heading to hill stations like Pachmarhi and Tamia in the region.

Point of View

This incident highlights the critical need for improved road safety measures and rigorous vehicle maintenance checks. The high number of injuries, particularly among critical cases, raises concerns about passenger safety in the region. As Pipariya serves as a vital transit point for tourists, ensuring safe travel routes must be a priority for authorities.
