Patna, June 18 (NationPress) A significant road mishap transpired near Jihuli village within the Patahi police station jurisdiction in Bihar’s East Champaran district on Wednesday when a passenger bus from Baba Barfani Transport Company flipped over while traveling from Motihari to Sitamarhi.
According to local law enforcement, the accident occurred when the bus experienced a sudden steering failure, resulting in a loss of control.
At the time of the incident, the vehicle was carrying approximately 30 to 35 passengers.
Witnesses reported that the bus overturned at a high speed, causing widespread panic and disorder at the scene. Around 15 passengers were injured, with several in critical condition.
Local residents acted swiftly following the crash, breaking the windows of the overturned bus to help rescue those trapped inside.
Some passengers were pinned beneath the vehicle and required significant effort to be freed.
“Upon hearing the crash, we immediately rushed to the scene to assist. Some individuals were unconscious and severely bleeding,” shared a local villager.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals using private vehicles and ambulances.
A police team arrived shortly thereafter to manage traffic, aid in rescue efforts, and compile a list of the injured.
“A case of reckless and negligent driving has been filed against the bus driver at the Patahi police station. Furthermore, the Motihari police have urged the District Transport Department to investigate the vehicle's fitness and road safety,” stated the SHO of Patahi police station.
This incident has once again raised serious concerns regarding the maintenance and safety standards of public transport vehicles operating in rural Bihar.
Just days earlier, on June 13, seven passengers traveling in a three-wheeler were injured when a speeding bus collided with them on the Birol-Gandol state highway 17 in Darbhanga district. The impact left the three-wheeler severely damaged.
The injured individuals were taken to the common health center in Birol.
