Raipur, March 6 (NationPress) In a tragic road incident in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district on Friday, five individuals lost their lives and over 20 others sustained injuries. The calamity involved a passenger bus that was traveling from Kurdeg in Jharkhand to Kunkuri, which reportedly lost control and overturned.
According to law enforcement authorities, the bus, with registration number CG 14 G 0263, was descending a hill in Godamba village near the Kardegga outpost around 9:45 a.m. when its brakes allegedly failed.
A passenger urged the driver to halt the bus, but unfortunately, he could not stop it due to the brake failure. Subsequently, the vehicle lost control and flipped over adjacent to a house under construction owned by Surendra Sai.
At the time of the incident, more than two dozen passengers were aboard the bus.
Local residents responded quickly upon hearing the chaos at the accident scene. They notified the authorities and utilized earth-moving machinery to free the bus and rescue those trapped inside. Three ambulances arrived shortly after and transported the injured individuals to medical facilities.
Kunkuri Block Medical Officer K. Kujur verified that five passengers perished in the crash. Among the deceased were a couple and a father with his infant son.
The victims were identified as Mahesh Ram (45), son of Rathu Ram from Makribandha village in Duldula tehsil; his wife Bimla (42) from the same locality; Sampati Devi (52), wife of Keshav Ram from Simdega district in Jharkhand; Digeshwar (40), son of Dilbhajan from Dhodhi village in Kurdeg tehsil, Simdega district; and Ghanshyam, a five-month-old infant, son of Digeshwar from the same area.
Collector Rohit Vyas confirmed the accident's details.
The severely injured individuals, including four critical cases, were referred to Ambikapur Medical College for advanced medical care. Thirteen others are receiving treatment at healthcare facilities in Kunkuri and the district hospital.
In a show of compassion, Kaushalya Devi Sai, the wife of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, visited the hospital in Kunkuri after hearing about the disaster. She met with the injured passengers, inquired about their conditions, and directed the medical staff to provide the best possible care and necessary support.
Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident as rescue and relief operations are wrapping up.
