Dang (Gujarat), Feb 2 (NationPress) Five individuals lost their lives and 17 others sustained injuries when a private luxury bus, transporting pilgrims, plunged into a steep gorge close to Saputara hill station in Gujarat's Dang district during the early hours of Sunday, according to police reports.
The incident occurred around 4-4:30 a.m. when the bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle near the Saputara hill station, stated in-charge Superintendent of Police SG Patil.
Carrying approximately 40 pilgrims, the bus breached the crash barrier and fell around 35 feet into the gorge, the official detailed.
Tragically, five individuals, comprising two women and three men, died at the scene, the official added.
"Five pilgrims have perished and 17 others have suffered severe injuries and are being transported to a civil hospital in Ahwa. Several others have minor injuries. The rescue mission is nearly complete," the official noted.
According to reports, the bus was en route with pilgrims from Trimbakeshwar in Maharashtra heading to Dwarka in Gujarat when the accident occurred.
These devotees had been on a religious journey since December 23. “After visiting numerous locations in Uttar Pradesh, they were returning from their recent stops at Shirdi, Tambakeshwar, and Nashik, and just this morning at Saputara, they enjoyed tea before the bus fell into the gorge within minutes, approximately three to four kilometers later,” explained a police official.
The pilgrims hailed from Guna, Shivpuri, and Ashok Nagar districts in Madhya Pradesh.
