An official notification from the Home Department has confirmed the suspension, ending speculation that arose following earlier reports about the officer's fate.

During this suspension, his designated headquarters will be the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Champaran Range, Bettiah.

This action comes after an investigation by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU), which had previously removed Gautam Kumar from his role as SDPO Kishanganj and reassigned him to police headquarters.

On April 6, he underwent nearly five hours of questioning at the EOU office in Patna.

The investigation centers around allegations that he possesses assets disproportionate to his declared income.

On March 31, 2026, EOU teams executed raids at several properties linked to Gautam Kumar in Kishanganj, Patna, and Purnea.

Findings suggest that he has allegedly accumulated assets exceeding his known income by more than 60%.

Officials have reported that properties were acquired not only in his name but also in the names of his wife, mother-in-law, and various associates.

There are also suspicions regarding benami assets valued over Rs 80 crore.

Official records indicate prima facie evidence of disproportionate assets totaling Rs 1.94 crore (approximately 60.27% above known income).

The suspension is enforced under Rule 9(1)(a) & (c) of the Bihar Government Servants (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 2005.

This case has been registered as Economic Offences Police Station Case No. 03/2026, dated March 29, 2026, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended in 2018).

Departmental proceedings against Gautam Kumar are set to begin shortly.

During his suspension, he will receive a subsistence allowance in accordance with Rule 10 of the applicable service guidelines.

Authorities have indicated that further legal and departmental measures will ensue based on the ongoing investigation's findings.
