In a press briefing, Surendra Kumar, the Joint CP of Delhi Police Crime Branch, stated that this gang of four had been hiding in the national capital for several days and were pinpointed after receiving tips from Bihar Police concerning their location.
He revealed that the Sigma gang's leader, Ranjan Pathak, was carrying a bounty of Rs 25,000 and was implicated in at least eight criminal cases.
The four members of the infamous Sigma gang, known for several high-profile murders in Bihar, were also conspiring to execute a substantial criminal operation during the upcoming Assembly elections, according to the senior officer.
As per police reports, they were involved in a murder in Bihar just after the election code of conduct was enforced on October 6.
Further investigations are ongoing, with police questioning known associates of the suspects to uncover the gangsters' motivations.
The Sigma gang members were fatally shot in a clash with Delhi police during the early hours of Thursday as police acted on critical information from Bihar Police and set a trap in the area. A firearm was recovered from the suspects, along with a stolen vehicle.
During the operation in North-West Delhi, the gangsters fired at the police team and were injured in the subsequent return fire. They were transported to a hospital in Rohini, where medical personnel pronounced them dead.
The operation was executed by a collaborative team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Bihar Police.
The four most-wanted individuals have been identified as Ranjan Pathak (25), Bimalesh Mahato also known as Bimalesh Sahni (25), Manish Pathak (33), and Aman Thakur (21), all of whom hailed from Sitamarhi district in Bihar and were part of the 'Sigma Gang'.
