Kolkata, April 13 (NationPress) A 21-year-old individual, who had been missing from Bhagalpur district in Bihar for more than 15 years, was finally reunited with his mother by officials in West Bengal thanks to the dedicated efforts of amateur radio enthusiasts.
In 2019, police discovered an injured young man near the toll plaza in Dhulagarh, Howrah, and took him to the local district hospital for treatment. During his recovery, medical staff found that he had experienced memory loss due to the trauma he endured.
He spent the following six years in the hospital.
According to doctors, he would only smile when asked about his past. After some time, they contacted the West Bengal Radio Club (WBRC), a group of amateur radio operators who utilize their extensive network across the nation to help reunite lost individuals with their families.
“We obtained the young man’s photograph and disseminated it to our contacts in various states. Eventually, we managed to locate his home in Deuri Maheshpur village, Bhagalpur, Bihar. His mother, Jhaji Devi, is the sole resident there now. Her elder son, who has mental challenges, went missing over 20 years ago, and her husband tragically died due to a lightning strike while working in the fields. After her husband's passing, Jhaji would take her younger son, Sagar, along to the fields for work,” shared Ambarish Nag Biswas, secretary of WBRC.
One evening, almost 15 years ago, while coming back home from the fields with young Sagar, she discovered he was missing upon returning. No one knows where he disappeared for the next 10 years or how he ended up in Dhulagarh, over 600 km away from home.
“The most heartbreaking part was the villagers' reaction. They claimed Sagar had perished and that the village was haunted by his spirit. Eventually, she had to travel to Gaya nearly 10 years ago to perform 'Pind Daan' for the souls of her departed husband and son. When we showed her a photograph of her son, she was overwhelmed with joy. Sagar, who doesn’t even recall the name of his state, cried like a child upon seeing his mother during a video call. The village headwoman then assisted Jhaji Devi in traveling to Howrah to reunite with her son. They are now back home together,” Nag Biswas concluded.
