Jaipur, Jan 16 (NationPress) Bird flu has been confirmed as the reason behind the deaths of migratory birds discovered in Jaisalmer over the last couple of days, according to a report from Nishad Laboratory in Bhopal.

In light of this situation, local officials have heightened their vigilance; the Quick Response Teams (QRTs), alongside representatives from the Animal Husbandry, Medical, Forest, and Revenue Departments, are now on high alert.

In the previous two days, several bird carcasses were discovered. The first day saw six dead birds, followed by one more the next day. Staff from the Forest Department collected these carcasses and dispatched samples to the Nishad Lab for testing. The lab confirmed bird flu as the cause of death.

The outbreak originated in Khichan near Phalodi and has now spread to Jaisalmer, heightening worries about further transmission. With bird flu confirmed, the possibility of transmission to humans has become a pressing concern.

Officials have urged community members to exercise extreme caution, advising them against handling bird carcasses under any circumstances and to promptly report any sightings to QRT teams or relevant department officials, who will manage the situation in accordance with safety protocols.

One official stated that due to the potential threat to human health, all necessary precautions are being put into place. “Villagers have been specifically instructed not to use pond water until further notice. The administration is actively working to contain the infection's spread and ensure the safety of both wildlife and humans,” he remarked.

Dr. Umesh Vrangatiwar, Joint Director of the Animal Husbandry Department in Jaisalmer, announced a complete ban on the entry of people and animals into the affected area.

He mentioned that following the deaths of the Kurjan birds, the administration has heightened its alertness.

Collector Pratap Singh has convened a meeting with officials from all relevant departments.

He expressed increased concern regarding the spread of bird flu among migratory birds.

Experts warn that this infection can potentially transmit from birds to humans. In light of this risk, the public has been advised to remain vigilant and adhere to the administration's directives.

Collector Pratap Singh assured that the administration is making every effort to manage the bird flu situation. Special surveillance is being conducted in the impacted area, and public awareness is being raised.

The district administration has established coordination among medical, veterinary, and forest department officials to effectively address the crisis.
