Kozhikode, Oct 13 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition, V.D. Satheesan, has called for swift action against high-ranking police officials and others allegedly involved in a premeditated scheme to assault Congress MP Shafi Parambil during a protest in Kozhikode, Kerala.

After visiting the injured MP, Satheesan informed the media that Parambil was intentionally targeted.

“Despite having over a thousand UDF supporters present, police chose to obstruct them, while only around fifty CPI-M supporters were supposed to be managed. Instead of addressing the UDF crowd, officers resorted to cane charges, attacking heads and faces without any orders,” he remarked.

Satheesan alleged that a senior officer directly threw a grenade at an activist's face, resulting in serious injuries.

“A grenade should never be aimed at a crowd; it should be released in an open area to allow the smoke to disperse the crowd. This is the first instance I've seen of a senior officer behaving in this manner. The police seem to be more loyal to the ruling party than to the law,” he stated.

He demanded a comprehensive investigation into the conspiracy against Parambil and insisted that senior officials involved be held accountable.

“What meeting did the SP attend yesterday? Who organized this event? Who was the keynote speaker? Were CPI-M police officers dispatched to a Sevadarshan program or an RSS event? Who sanctioned their deployment? Police officials are behaving as if they are above the law. This cannot be allowed to happen again,” he emphasized.

The Congress leadership in Kerala has reiterated its call for accountability and is closely monitoring the investigation, urging the state government to ensure such incidents do not recur and that citizens' rights to peaceful protest are safeguarded.

In the meantime, the Congress has approached the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, filing a breach of privilege against several Kerala Police officials concerning Parambil.
