Vadakara, Oct 23 (NationPress) Congress MP Shafi Parambil, who was assaulted by the Kerala Police during a protest meeting earlier this month in his Lok Sabha constituency of Vadakara, declared on Thursday that he will persist with his legal battle and will present all relevant evidence to the Parliament’s Privileges Committee.
Addressing the media for the first time after undergoing rhinoplasty due to the police action, Parambil stated that there is no need for Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s “AI tool” to identify his assailant from the incident that occurred in Perambra, Kozhikode.
“It was Vadakara Control Room Circle Inspector Abhilash David who attacked me that day. He had been suspended on January 16, 2023, due to alleged connections with the mafia. Although reports indicated he had been dismissed, his profile no longer appears on the police website,” Parambil remarked.
He went on to claim that David, along with two others who were previously dismissed, has since been reinstated.
“The attack in Perambra was a diversionary tactic from the Sabarimala gold theft scandal. It was a premeditated act by the police,” he asserted.
“I sustained injuries when a grenade detonated in a police officer's grasp while I was trying to prevent a confrontation, and the footage serves as evidence. Despite the severe beating I received, I refrained from seeking hospital treatment immediately, opting instead to help calm my supporters,” he elaborated.
Parambil noted that even the SP, who initially dismissed the assault, later altered his statement.
“They claimed that an AI tool would identify those responsible and that action would ensue, yet nothing has materialized. The SP halted the investigation under pressure from the CPI-M. I have not been formally questioned yet. Only after a video from the rural SP surfaced did any action occur,” he stated.
According to him, one officer struck him multiple times, while another intervened to stop a third blow.
“There was no stone-pelting or disturbance at that time. The grenade went off in a policeman’s hand while Deputy SP Hariprasad attempted to strike me with a baton. The police later released a memo for grenade handling training, as the Kozhikode rural police lacked proper knowledge on handling them. Grenades are not intended to be thrown into crowds,” he explained.
Meanwhile, David refuted Parambil’s assertions, stating he had not been dismissed but merely suspended, saying, “I was reinstated 22 months ago. I had seen media reports claiming I was dismissed, but they were incorrect.”
