Imphal, Feb 9 (NationPress) On the eve of a significant Assembly session, Manipur's Chief Minister N. Biren Singh tendered his resignation to Governor A.K. Bhalla on Sunday.
In his letter addressed to the Governor, Biren Singh expressed his deep gratitude to the Central government for its prompt actions, interventions, and developmental initiatives aimed at protecting the interests of every Manipuri.
He urged the Central government, through the Governor's office, to maintain the same level of support. He highlighted several key areas, including the preservation of Manipur’s territorial integrity, which has a profound and diverse cultural history spanning thousands of years, addressing border infiltration, and developing policies for the deportation of illegal immigrants, as well as combating drug-related issues and narco-terrorism.
Additionally, he mentioned the implementation of a stringent and fool-proof revised mechanism of FMR with the biometric system being rigorously enforced, along with the expedited and time-bound border measures currently in progress.
Nongthombam Biren Singh, aged 64, became the 12th Chief Minister of Manipur on March 15, 2017, leading the BJP to its inaugural victory in the state and successfully retaining power during the 2022 Assembly elections. However, the ethnic clashes between the Meitis and Kuki-Zos that erupted in May 2023 have overshadowed his second term.
