Imphal, Jan 23 (NationPress) The significant session of the Manipur Assembly is set to commence on February 10, as announced by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday. This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting that took place on Wednesday in the Tamenglong district.
This forthcoming session will mark the 7th gathering of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, which was formed in March 2022. However, in light of the ethnic unrest that erupted in Manipur on May 3, 2023, ten tribal legislators, comprising seven from the BJP and two from the Kuki People’s Alliance, have been boycotting the Assembly sessions, pressing for a distinct administration or Union Territory for the tribal communities within the state.
Among the ten tribal MLAs, two serve as ministers – Letpao Haokip and Nemcha Kipgen (the sole woman minister) – who are also refraining from traveling to the state capital due to security concerns and are absent from the Cabinet meeting.
The ruling BJP and Chief Minister have yet to take any measures against the party’s seven tribal MLAs. In the Cabinet meeting, which he chaired, Biren Singh also addressed several initiatives, such as the rollout of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 and the Comprehensive City Mobility Plan for Imphal and Thoubal districts.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister declared that, following the improvement of law and order in the state, the government has revived the “Go to Hills” initiative to deliver administration directly to the populace.
He mentioned that the Cabinet meeting held in the tribal-dominated Tamenglong district symbolizes the enhancement of law and order in the state. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, numerous projects worth approximately Rs 300 crore have been announced for the hilly Tamenglong district.
According to the Chief Minister, “The Tamenglong district was once among the most underdeveloped districts, and it is now recognized as one of the most developed districts in the nation.”
He also stated that many individuals implicated in vandalizing properties belonging to state Cabinet Ministers and MLAs have been apprehended, and legal action is underway against them.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the government is committed to the people and will persist in safeguarding and nurturing the integrity and identity of Manipur. He urged the populace to support and collaborate with the government in its initiatives.
