Imphal, March 6 (NationPress) The budget session of the Manipur Assembly is set to recommence on March 9, with a range of significant topics anticipated for discussion, as informed by officials.
In a notification issued by Manipur Assembly Secretary Rohit Sapam, it was announced on Thursday that the seventh session of the 12th Manipur Assembly, which was previously adjourned sine die on February 5, 2026, will reconvene at 11 a.m. on March 9 in the Assembly Hall located in Imphal.
A separate notification from the Assembly Secretary indicated that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) will convene on Friday to deliberate on the allocation of time for matters pertaining to the seventh session.
The BAC meeting will be chaired by Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh.
During a one-day session of the state Assembly held on February 5, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla addressed the House.
A senior leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stated that the expansion of the Council of Ministers is expected to occur after the conclusion of the Budget session, as there are still seven Ministerial positions vacant.
On March 4, a month following the swearing-in ceremony, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh distributed portfolios among the two Deputy Chief Ministers and two Cabinet Ministers, while retaining control over most major departments.
Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel noted that, upon the Chief Minister’s advice, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla allocated portfolios to the Ministers.
As per the notification, the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj as well as the Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills were assigned to Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen.
The Public Health Engineering Department along with the Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Departments were designated to another Deputy Chief Minister, Losii Dikho.
Meanwhile, the Home Department and the Youth Affairs and Sports Departments have been assigned to Konthoujam Govindas Singh, and the Arts and Culture Department along with the Tourism Department have been allocated to Khuraijam Loken Singh.
Chief Minister Khemchand Singh, Nemcha Kipgen, and Konthoujam Govindas Singh are members of the BJP, whereas Losii Dikho and Khuraijam Loken Singh are affiliated with the Naga People's Front (NPF) and the National People's Party (NPP), respectively.
The NPF is led by Neiphiu Rio, the Chief Minister of Nagaland, while the NPP is headed by Conrad K. Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya.
The Manipur government, via its official X account, remarked: "This allocation signifies a crucial step towards bolstering governance and ensuring targeted leadership across vital departments."
Chief Minister Khemchand Singh, along with the two Deputy Chief Ministers and two Ministers, took the oath on February 4 following the lifting of President's Rule in Manipur (2025–2026).
Notably, the only woman Minister and BJP MLA Nemcha Kipgen, representing the Kuki community, took her oath virtually as Deputy Chief Minister from Manipur Bhavan in New Delhi due to security concerns.
