Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, March 13 (NationPress) In light of the extensive violence and tragic loss of life caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Opposition party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to forgo its traditional celebrations of Iftar and Eid Milan this year.
“In response to the severe warfare in the Middle Eastern region, countless innocent individuals have perished, numerous civilians have been injured, and many others have become displaced, enduring harsh living conditions. In the spirit of hoping for an end to hostilities and a return to peace, the BJD has resolved to cancel this year’s Iftar and Eid Milan celebrations,” stated sources within the party.
During a press briefing at the party's headquarters, BJD Vice-President and former Minister Pratap Jena remarked that the party typically hosts a grand Iftar and Eid Milan event alongside its President Naveen Patnaik, welcoming Muslim community members and respected figures from various faiths.
He emphasized that due to the ongoing conflict, many individuals from Odisha currently in the Middle East are facing dire situations.
The war has directly impacted over ten nations and influenced global stability.
Jena expressed that in consideration of these circumstances, the BJD has chosen to suspend its Iftar and Eid Milan festivities this year.
Expressing profound sadness over the extensive loss of life and destruction caused by the Middle Eastern conflict, BJD President Naveen Patnaik has called upon the community to abstain from any celebratory actions during this somber period.
Importantly, former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has previously raised concerns regarding stranded Odia tourists, students, professionals, and workers in Gulf nations, advocating for their safe and prompt evacuation by both state and central authorities.
