Shimla, March 9 (NationPress) The primary opposition party, BJP, during its Legislature Party meeting on Sunday, led by Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, expressed concerns that the Congress government in the state is evading crucial discussions as the 16-day Budget session commences on Monday.

Naina Devi MLA Randhir Sharma stated that the BJP aims to challenge the government through discussions on both the Governor's speech and the Budget.

During the session, the party plans to highlight issues such as government failures, unpopular decisions, and corruption, taking a firm stance to push the government into a defensive position.

Sharma emphasized that economic bankruptcy is a pressing concern in Himachal Pradesh, particularly regarding salaries, pensions, and funds for the elderly.

“The financial situation in Himachal Pradesh has deteriorated to the point where Central funds are being utilized to cover salaries and pensions,” he remarked.

He accused the Chief Minister, who also holds the position of Finance Minister, of being the primary contributor to the state's economic crisis.

Sharma pointed out that extravagance within the government is a major issue, citing that significant amounts are being spent to enhance the prestige of ministers, as well as expenditures for legal representation to maintain the positions of Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS) and a network of “Cabinet-rank friends.”

He criticized the government for its avoidance of discussions, noting that the Vidhan Sabha sessions have become shorter, with the current Budget Session consisting of only 16 meetings, compared to 26 in the past.

Additionally, a brief four-day session was held during the winter session. He mentioned that issues of law and order and drug addiction would also be addressed in the discussions.

“The Opposition is determined to hold the current Congress government accountable,” he asserted, adding that if necessary, the BJP may consider protests outside the Assembly, with a decision to be made during a party meeting.
